Apparently nothing of consequence has happened lately.
I've been listening to Joni Mitchell nonstop all day, LOUD.
You wouldn't think so, but Hejira is actually even BETTER when it's played at a high volume.
Speaking of Hejira, I NEED a poster of that album cover. It's so stunning and poignant...
I should try to find a 5 ft by 5 ft version.... yeah I won't hold my breath. But it's a thought.

Hejira means "journey" in Arabic by the way... "pilgrimage" specifically.
The entire album builds on the metaphor of journey=relationship.

In other news, I'm ready for summer, and this dry skin is about to fucking kill me.
Oh, and I decided, I'm moving to Seattle. When, I don't know. Maybe when I'm 60.
I just want to live there.

I have a friend who doesn't believe in dinosaurs. At all. Doesn't think they ever existed.
Ah, the south!

What fictional high school—from tv, film, or a book—would you most like to attend? Or would you rather never go near high school again, fictional or otherwise?

Rydell High from Grease. Hell yes. I've wanted to be a Pink Lady since I was 5. Imagine my disappointment with being HOMESCHOOLED. THERE ARE NO PINK LADIES WHEN YOU ARE HOMESCHOOLED.

I can't wait to get out of this damn town. Racism and sexism surrounds me, like a glove. Part of everyday life.

There are people here that don't believe in dinosaurs. Just flat don't believe they ever even existed. And the world is only 10,000 years old and the sky is green and the grass is blue.

I mean, what kind of place is this? I preacher talks about race in his sermon, and people are offended. Not because he was racist in the sermon. But because he was anti-racism.

What. The. Fuck.

Get me the hell out of here.

I wish I could go live with Will, my liberal-ass web designer brother.

In Raleigh, living in sin with his rad girlfriend Suzanne, who quotes Don Quixote.

And their adorable rescue mutt Maddy.

And their huge salt-water aquarium.

And their Teflon-free stainless frying pans. (Because Teflon will destroy your insides, apparently.)

And their billions of books.

I love my parents, though. It's not them. It's the churches, the schools, the neighbors.
The people in the supermarket wearing their Obamamonkey cartoon t-shirts.
And my homeschooled friends wearing their "NoBama" shirts to Carowinds.

Why? Because Obama's a fucking terrorist who's going to take over the country and turn everyone muslim
then force everyone to get gay-married.

And I've been branded "the liberal" just because I pointed out that Barack Obama might not be, you know, THE DEVIL.
That maybe he's a good man and could be an okay president. God forbid.

I have two friends who really, really, really liked each other. Their parents wouldn't let them date. Because he's black and she's white.
"It's a different culture" her parents said. "Cultures that shouldn't mix."

Would they have a problem with her dating someone from France, or England, or Spain? Of course not.

Damn.

At about 2:00 this morning, I was quite bored. And I found Katharine Hepburn's house on Google Earth! Yay!
Called Fenwick, in case you didn't know. Quite a big fangirl moment for me! :)

The big one, there. Right by the ocean.
And SEE?! TENNIS COURTS! GOLF COURSE!
It's totes Fenwick.

It's almost 1 am. I'm still awake. I don't think I should be. I think I should be getting some sleep. That's what the rational side of my brain says. But geek side says no. Geek side says stay awake until the three episodes of The West Wing I just bought have completely downloaded.
I've seen all the episodes up to season four's finale, Twenty-Five. If you are a West Wing Geek, you will know that that is the episode in which Jed Bartlet is temporarily removed from office because his daughter was kidnapped.
I was squirming to find out what happened. Then I found out that iTunes only had seasons 1-4.

FAIL, iTUNES. FAIL.

But it's okay because now they have added 5 and 6. So I bought the first three episodes of season 5. (because that's all I can afford)
I usually just buy gift cards at Target instead of using a credit card, and GOD, am I dry tonight.
I honestly just have nothing interesting to say. Except I now have a David Bowie t-shirt. And a Duran Duran t-shirt. On clearance. :D
And I had the Mom of a friend offer to make me a Fleetwood Mac iron-on with a record cover. I told her I'd love her forever and make her cookies every day.

.....

Well, son of a bitch.
I think I should just go.

OH, one more thing. I think this is the most precious thing I have ever seen:

It looks like they're playing Grey Gardens :)
(from an Anthropologie catalogue, I think?)

1. My Dad is absolutely gaga over John McCain's Mother, Roberta. He read in the newspaper Sunday about she and her twin sister Rowena (how awesome is that name by the way? It's going on the list) buying a fancy car in Europe because they couldn't rent one because of their advanced age (93 at the time), then getting a speeding ticket in Arizona for going 112 mph while driving said Mercedes. i love John McCain's mom. She's amazing. When Dad said "You know, I kinda wish she would run for President." it's the first time since campaign season started that I've wholeheartedly agreed with him. But it makes me kind of sad to read that her birthday is February 7th. Just ONE DAY after mine. ONE DAY and I could've had someone cool to share a birthday with. All I have are Eva Braun and Zsa Zsa Gabor. And Reagan.

2. Sarah Palin seems to be unaware of what the Bush Doctrine is all about. FAIL. That is all. But enough politics.

3. Emmylou Harris does kickboxing for exercise. Interesting visual. I think I love her more now.

4. Today is Lauren Bacall's birthday! Yay! I don't really have anything to say about it, just yay. I'm glad she was born, and I'm glad she's still alive. Oh, and:

Betty Joan Perske Bogart Robards FTW.

One more thing. Mrs. B is a crazy lunatic. Bat. Shit. Crazy.

Okay, so you know how I've been watching that Silver Springs concert clip over and over? The one that I posted day before yesterday?
Well Diablo Cody, writer of Juno, has a column in Entertainment Weekly. In the one from April, she lists her YouTube obsessions. And the Silver Springs video from The Dance s one of them! Seriously, look:

5. ''FLEETWOOD MAC — SILVER SPRINGS LIVE'' (youtube.com/watch?v=Pi5op_zOqzg)
Viewing this performance from the Mac's 1997 reunion tour is like eavesdropping on an embarrassingly intimate lovers' quarrel. Watch through your fingers as Mommy and Daddy (Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham) purge two decades' worth of relationship demons in front of a paying audience. Even though these fightin' words are purely lyrical, Stevie's accusing gaze and Lindsey's defensive stance tell us everything we need to know. ''I'll follow you down till the sound of my voice will haunt you,'' Stevie rasped way back in 1976. Who knew she'd be right?

I was on the fence for a while, but I have decided to like Diablo Cody. Just based on that, and how much I loved Juno.

In other news, I found a picture with both Emmylou Harris and David Bowie in it. (And, like, Dave Matthews, and Moby. But still. David Bowie and Emmylou Harris, standing next to each other. My musical worlds collide.)

So, um.... have a nice day!

Or maybe sliced bread is the best thing since her?
I was afraid that she was getting jealous, because of all the attention Stevie's getting these days.
Here is what I am pretty sure is the best music video of all time. Ever.
 </lj-embed>
I love how she goes after Lindsey on the "Never get away" towards the end. It's like she's trying to put the fear of God in his soul, man.
I wish they'd get back together. :-(

Yesterday I scanned (yes, I finally figured out how to with this stupid new printer) what just may be my favorite photo of The Swede.
I'm putting it behind a cut because I'm so excited I figured out how. Yay!

Her candid photos are often her best, anyway. )

So, uhm... color me totally frakking hyper and beyond happy right now.
8-packs of those tiny Dr Pepper's were on sale at the grocery, like totally super-duper cheap.
I've had three so far. DR PEPPER FTW.

I gave in and bought some popcorn, finally. It's been so long. I am indulging as we speak. Uh, as I speak.
You aren't really talking back to me. I think.

I've been bugging all my friends to death trying to find someone to talk to... I just wrapped up a splendid and passionate
political debate with Daniel. Which was divine until we discovered that we sort of agree on what we were arguing about.
We were bantering along well and fine until we found common ground. Then it sort of petered out.

Have I ever said how much I ADORE Sarah's divine and fabulous Grandmother? Well, I do, and she is.
I recall the time we (Em, Sarah, and I) were in Beaufort with her. We told her about a strange, mean, and rather
creepy old man we encountered at the drugstore. She advised us to, if we saw him again, to "Just kick 'im in the knees."
WIN.
And when we (Sarah and I) went to see Mamma Mia with Sarah's Grandmother, Sarah's Grandmother's friend Carolyn,
their hilarious, young, black and oh-so-fabulously gay sidekick Keydran, in Grandmother's enormous Buick.

Trying to navigate out of the shopping center where the theater is, which was absolutely SWARMED with people, on foot on the sidewalks and driving, who had no clue what to do in the complicated system of unnecessary roundabouts, she said, and I quote, in a rich southern accent, "I just don't know how we are going to get out of here, with all these tacky people all ovah the place!"

we all thought she meant the multitudes of (rather tacky) people swarming around, but she explained that she meant the drivers. She explained that the way they were driving was "just tacky!"

Sigh. I love old people. Specially old southern ones.

Anyway so I made two new LJ friends! Le squee! *waves*
Which brings the grand total up to... three.
What, sorry. I'm new to the whole LJ deal and only one of my friends (outside cyberspace) has an LJ.
*waves at Sonia*
Triumph for the fangirl in me, I found fellow fangirls!

SPEAKING OF FANGIRLS.
(I am so full of, just, crap tonight, am I not?)

STEVIE! )</div>

Okay, so I realize and I admit that Stevie Nicks is a flake of epic proportions. (Which is why it mildly freaks me out that I've taken to talking like her every now and then - with a "Like, totally" and an occasional "Far out" mixed in with my usual vocab)
But the hair, the boots, the voice, and the songs cancel it out.
Not to mention the gorgeousness.

I watched Adam's Rib again today, for the six millionth time. I know I have the DVD, but every time TCM shows it, I have to
drop everything and watch. Adams Rib = Love.
After the daylong Kathfest yesterday, plus Adam's Rib today, I may have to re-read Me.
I think I may. And maybe I'll post my favorite passage sometime. Yes, I think I will. Or shall. Shall is a better word for it.
I'm going to stop babbling now.

Because I love Victorian postcards. And this one, well... is made of win.

Oh, and maybe a Lindsey/Stevie picture. Because I kind of love them. They'd be a real OTP, except that they're real people. And that would be weird.

Okay, you know what?

I WANT BARACK OBAMA IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

There, I said it. I denied it for a long time. Well, I might've said that he was the lesser of two evils,
and that anyone's better than McCain, blah blah blah. But I watched that speech last night.
And now I have decided. If he doesn't win this election, we are in a hell of a lot of trouble.

Not that I'm telling my parents. And certainly not my grandparents. They tell racist Obama jokes when
I'm over at their house. I wince and try to fake-laugh, because there's really nothing I can do about it.
I mean, they're in their 70's, and that's the way they were raised.

Michelle Obama is my new hero. I mean, not just because of the speech. The other stuff. She's amazing.

Anway, that's about it. Oh, and one more thing. Sheryl Crow is joining Fleetwood Mac for their tour next year.
Like, joining the BAND. Not cool. Sorry, I'm a geek.

So, I checked out Guess Who's Coming to Dinner from the library. Again.
Why? Well, why the hell not?
I know I've seen it 57 times. I know I've memorized the dialogue.
But it's still good. And I still cry when I watch the end.
Even past the twich of annoyance at Spensah's eyeglasses lacking glass.
I think I should invest in buying the DVD. Hm. Perhaps.
It's raining like the dickens. Yes. Like the DICKENS. It hasn't rained like this in YEARS.
Because NC is in the middle of a huge-ass drought. So yaaay rain! The yard's underwater.
The ceiling in my room is leaking. Why my room? I have no idea. But I like the rain.
Gives me more of an excuse to just faff about inside and watch movies. :-)
Hooray, Greta Garbo box set!

Anway, when we went to the library, I checked out the book Practical Magic,
because I totally grew up watching the movie with my friends, pretending we were witches.
Even though I discovered, upon my recent re-watching, the movie kinda sucks.
Plus I cannot stand a, Sandra Bullock, b, Nicole Kidman, or c, Aidan Quinn. But OMG, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest FTW!
The book is amazing. Much more complex and interesting than the movie. More storylines and background for the characters, and more characters. But, sadly, less of the Aunts. Who were/are my favorite characters.

Okay, new loves. Anne Bancroft. Mrs. Robinson. Oh yes.

And my new musical obsession. Stevie Nicks. Don't ask why. She just rocks.

Yeah, that weird feeling you're getting right now? That's Stevie. About to melt your face off. OFF.

Oh, and also? Tallulah Bankhead. But that's another story for another time. :-)

I need some Kate icons. I have very few. I suck at making them :(
Okay, so here's my favorite Kate photo EVAR. I have no clue where it came from. I just lak it.

So, um. I don't think I have much to say. :-/
Except that I love Ingrid Bergman. Beautiful person, inside and out.
240

But you know who else I love? Katharine Hepburn. I just finished reading Garson Kanin's memoir about Kate & Spence, and though I know how much of an invasion of her privacy it was, and how betrayed she felt when he wrote it, I LOVE IT.
One thing I learned:
Katharine Hepburn will cut a bitch. Srsly. Once, when she was in her seventies, she got into a fistfight (that's right, bitches) with a belligerant truck-driver in NYC. On the sidewalk. Do not EFF with Kate Hepburn.
Also, when she and her pal Irene Mayer Selznick were in their fifties (ish) they started breaking into their friends' hollywood houses when they were away, swimming in their pools, and leaving. Just because. Baha.

Tallulah Bankhead. And her autobiography. Amazing. Hilarious. Mahhvelous dahhling. I might have to start talking like her now. I mean, how can I not?

My mom just told me that Tallulah was on the shortlist to be my name.
It was going to be Tallulah Jean. WTF, parents!? You chose JENNIE over TALLULAH?

Today is one of those days. Hence it is my new myspace name. I love Mr.T.
In other news, there is snow outside. Melting quickly. Thats how we roll in North Carolina,
it snows one night, then the next morning it's 60 degrees. Sigh.
Anyway, Jared insulted Dorothy Parker last night. Why, I don't know. He saddens me...
